Automotive Art
Automotive Art
Shown here are examples of my artwork inspired by my passion for automobiles expressed using materials other than license plates. These constructions are an ongoing view into my inner creative world.
Earth’s Revenge
Our culture transforms the landscape with the wave of the hand and large earth moving equipment. A larger obstacle just requires a larger piece of equipment. I wish the earth resisted more and was able to fight back. This piece also explores my fascination with complex forms intersecting flat planes; creating a submerged sinking feeling.
‘59 Trunk
A 1959 Chevy trunk lid was the perfect object to turn into a portfolio case for an advertising firm. This piece was a commissioned; the task: to conceal multiple 18” x 20” presentation boards, a promotional package with a CD, business cards, and two VHS tapes in a secret agent style packaging. The door handles are for carrying the case and the buttons in the handles pushed simultaneously, release the spring-loaded trunk lid. LED lights, an illuminated logo and secret compartments compliment the piece. The sides are thermal formed polystyrene and all the body and trim are real down to the upholstery interior.
Christine’s Sister
Christine is a red 1957 Plymouth Fury and the main character in Steven king’s movie of the same name. The car has a mean streak and seeks revenge against the ones who wronged her. Night after night of demolition derby style run-ins she can regenerate back to the flawless classic of hours before. My story is about her lesser know sister, a Cadillac Eldorado, born just a year later that also had the same temperament and sinful tendencies. We never heard of her however, because removing her wheels and tires proved to be the only way to curb her devious joy rides that made her sister famous. This is how she was recently found in a scrap yard outside of Pittsburgh.
